Andrea Carrano, Ph.D.

I received my Ph.D. in Molecular Oncology and did my research training in the laboratory of Michele Pagano, M.D. in the Department of Pathology at the NYU Cancer Center. My research focused on cell signaling pathways involved in tumorigenesis. After receiving my degree, I joined Tony Hunter’s lab at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies to study nutrient signaling pathways driving aging. I then continued my research as a project scientist in Eric Bennett’s lab at UCSD to understand how the ubiquitin-modiﬁed proteome changes with aging. Through the course of my training and research, I gained expertise in writing/editing grant applications, abstracts, and manuscripts, which led me to pursue a career in science writing. Working as a writer in the Sander lab, I help researchers translate their innovative ideas into funded grants as well as help them communicate and publish their scientiﬁc ﬁndings.
